PUWER and LOLER — work equipment and lifting

PUWER covers work equipment generally; LOLER covers lifting equipment and lifting operations.

Summary only — not legal advice. Check the official sources below.

PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) requires equipment to be suitable, maintained, and used by people with adequate information and training.

LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) requires lifting operations to be planned, supervised and carried out safely, with thorough examination at set intervals.

Keep examination reports and act on defects. Hired equipment still needs clear responsibility for examination.

Read the HSE topic pages for the equipment you use on site.

How Pure Safety helps

This site has PUWER/LOLER duty guides. Pure Safety’s live product today is incidents, observations and actions — not a full plant-register product screen in the trial.
